Ma Biche sur le Toit in Toulouse Serves Fab Food with Views
I loved dining at this secret spot right on top of Galeries Lafayette in the middle of Toulouse
A rooftop restaurant right on top of Galeries Lafayette in the middle of Toulouse sounds like the place to be! And the name Ma Biche sur le Toit- My Deer on the Roof- also aroused my curiosity. It can take some effort to find this secret spot, however I think that’s part of the fun. And once you have reached the sixth floor, the panorama of the ‘Pink City’ is right in front of you. I was happy to test it for you and see if the food was as good as the view.
Wow Factor
As Oldest has moved to Toulouse to study, Chéri and I decided to go up there to celebrate his birthday. In style, of course. So I was in charge of picking the restaurant (who else…). My eye fell on the fancy-looking Ma Biche sur le Toit, which did not necessarily have good reviews foodwise, but I decided to give it a go. The three of us headed to Galeries Lafayette, where we found a lift to take us to the sixth floor. And once the doors opened, we were in a different universe. It definitely had the wow factor! The bar with colourful lighting above it is the centrepiece, while the rest of the restaurant has a modernist art-deco vibe. It was winter, so we only went out onto the terrace to absorb the view. But I can imagine you can have a great time outside when the nights get longer and warmer.
Big Dreams
Ma Biche sur le Toit started as the dream of a group of friends. And they dreamed big! It involved opening a surprising place that would change during the day into the evening- and night. And so it happened. You are welcome from breakfast, lunch to dinner, or come for an after-work drink, enjoy a cocktail, or dance till late at night. There is a set menu during the day: 25 euros for two courses and 30 euros for three. And for dinner, you can eat ‘à la carte’, fancy for ‘from the menu’. We visited on a weekday in February, so I imagine it can get much busier. But even then, several groups of people seemed to have a good time. Of course, we started with a round of cocktails (well, one cocktail for me and two beers for the boys) while toasting Oldest’s birthday.
Sumptuous
To start our meal, all three of us went for the sumptuous Caesar salad (15 euros). Next, Chéri and Oldest shared a roasted pork belly (60 euros for two), caramelised with a teriyaki sauce. Even though it was Oldest’s night, Chéri wanted to have his share. I had the only vegetarian dish on the menu: fried tofu with seasonal vegetables (17 euros). Luckily, it was much more creative than an ‘omelette au fromage’ and I was delighted with my choice. To conclude our festive meal, Chéri had a de-constructed Mont-Blanc (12 euros) and Oldest a chocolate-inspired creation (12 euros). My tea gourmand came with four delicious bites (15 euros). Now, you might want to know my verdict: Was driving 400 kilometres in one evening worth it? Well, it was, that’s for sure. However, the next time we go, I will make sure to book us an overnight stay.
